Cmoneyspinner on Over-Blog | My Pain, Your Gain

Using a free account at a site called OverBlog. It’s sort of like Tumblr or Pinterest, in that it’s really easy to share links, photos, etc. and write your own content. My posts date back to April 2015 and the last time there was any activity was June 2016.  Creating a blog was easy and the site does have visual appeal. However, my site does not get much traffic, so I don't spend a lot of time there.

Sharing a quick list of the most recent posts below and also some embedded content. This blog has its usefulness in that it creates a space on the Internet for a collection of random things that are of interest to me, e.g. news about world affairs which become history reference markers, food and drink, entertainment, etc.

Do you use OverBlog?  Would be interested in knowing your experience.  Feel free to comment and share a link.

Advantages of Collections on Google Plus (UPDATE: G+ Shut Down April 2019)

Well! It was fun while it lasted. ANNOUNCEMENT: On April 2, 2019, Google shut down the consumer (personal) version of Google+.
***
Are you a Google Plusser? Why not? Didn't create an account because there were predictions that Google management was considering kicking the network to the curb? Yes.  There was a buzz about that.

Several years back when Google Plus social media network was still in test mode, I received an invitation via eMail to participate in the project. When the decision was made to open to the public, I was already on board and they even gave me a custom URL for my profile.  My G+ experience has been very pleasant, although there are probably loads of features I have not learned how to use.

One of the features I have learned to use is the Collections.

Google Plus Collections is Google's answer to Pinterest users. Pinterest boards are for you to arrange your interests in an orderly fashion.  G+ Collections help you arrange your G+ posts in an orderly manner.  Why would you need to do that?  Ever try to search for one of your posts or links that you shared into the stream from a few years back?

All my G-Plus activity goes back several years. Tried going to my profile posts stream and scrolling down. That didn't work. If you scroll down your profile page looking for old posts you will discover that the post stream only goes back so far. You say to yourself: “How can this be? Have my posts disappeared?” Of course not! This is Google we're talking about! If Facebook can share your memories with you from years gone by, then there had better be a way to search for and find your old Google Plus posts.

Found a way to do that. It wasn't exactly simple. But it was doable. It is not easy to explain the process, so I'll direct you to the post where I found the information which I saved for future reference in my G+ Collections created for my business page called Tips and Advice for Business (Work-at-Home, etc.):

So how does this all tie together? If you find your old Google Plus activity and move it to your Collections activity, for your profile or your business page, then later you can just go there and retrieve your old posts. As a test, moved an old post from 2012 to a collection on my profile. View here.

So! You can probably conclude that although G+ Collections are good for organizing your Plus activity, in my opinion, the primary advantage of maintaining Collections on Google Plus is that you can retrieve your activity history.

Side Note:
  • All of my G+ Collections are set to Public, so you if you want to look at how my collections are organized, you can view the content even if you are not a member of the network. My Writings, My Work, My World, My Way is my collection which appears on my profile.  (In comparison, you have to have an account with Pinterest to view my various pinboards.  My profile shows 57 boards which include group boards.  Home Business Works on Pinterest.)

Did you find this blog post helpful?
Please let me know by leaving a comment and/or sharing with others.  Thanks! :)

Growing My Facebook Network

One of the members in another community wrote about social media addiction.  I'm not addicted to social media. For me, it's a form of free advertising; plain and simple. I have affiliate marketing websites and blogs. I have to share them somewhere to get traffic to them. But it's also a way to meet new people and make friends; something that's hard to do since I work from home.  Been active on Facebook for well about 10 years. Shared my experience growing my network.

Pinterest: A Look Back and Now! (2012 - 2015) : Update 2016 : Affiliate Links are Allowed

This post was published here January 13th, 2016.

Having been active on Pinterest since it began, it has been interesting to watch the social media site evolve and quickly gain a footing right next to the established giants like Facebook and Twitter, and carve out their lion's share.

When this content was published, Pinterest had banned the use of affiliate links.

That was then.  This is now.

Here's a great article for work at home mom, written by a work at home dad.

Cool Down Up North - Dee's Dialogue - maa organics (Reblog)

Shared this lovely image (below) via Pinterest years back. Was reviewing some of my pins to my board for general healthcare and came across this one. The link had changed which sent me into full blown panic mode!  (Right.  A shared pin on how to relieve stress and I'm freaking out!) Searched for this diligently and found it. Corrected the original source link for my pin but as an added step and blogged this post. Don't want to lose it again! Australia is on my bucket list of Places I'd to Go and if I ever get there, will have to visit Tropical North Queensland. :)

FYI. The link that had changed led me to this nice lady's new blog maa organics. Fortunately her posts from her old blog were still available to the public. Love both blogs!! They're absolutely fabulous!

How Pinterest Uses Your Content Without Violating Copyright Laws | readwrite.com (2012)

  • Pinterest, the increasingly popular pinboarding social network, is able to present a visually arresting interface in large part by using copyrighted images pinned by users. "It's a huge concern for creative bloggers," said Amy Anderson, who blogs on the arts and crafts site Crafter Minds. "I don't think Pinterest does anything to help protect copyright besides removing content when people ask."

Glad to have saved these historical markers. It's 2015 and Pinterest has made its way to becoming a recognized reliable social media "facilitator".  Their success is phenomenal.  Keeping up with their business affairs because several months back, they invited me to create a free business account.  That was a gracious and generous offer to a struggling home business entrepreneur.  Even though this company has hit the "big time" (as Peter Gabriel would say), they still extended a helping hand  to "the little people" (like me).  With a current net worth of $3.8 billion, they have plans to continue moving forward.   Here is what they were up to in 2015:

Could Treasure Pen Be the New Facebook?

Have been freelance writing since 2011, and participating in online writing communities – slash – social networks similar to TreasurePen.com, but NOT!

Recently I published a short blurb at another writing site – DailyTwoCents.com about this site and titled it “Looking For the New Facebook”.

Here is the link, if interested:
Looking For the New Facebook?

It poses the question which was mentioned by an independent reviewer or blogger about the future of Treasure Pen.

  • Could it be?
  • Do you think it is possible?
  • Can TP become the new Facebook?

The answer is: "Yes."  "It could."

But dogged diligence and determination would be required.  They would have to burn the candle at both ends, so to speak. Don’t know if they fully realize this, but the management and staff at the T-Pen community are literally sitting on top of a gold mine! (O.o)

Wishing them success!!
